I absolutely loved this book. It was a story of misguided self destruction told with pathos and humor and I couldn't put it down. The accidents of fate or choice, call it what you will, have devastating consequences. I read it in one sitting. Although the main character is older than I am, he recalls a time that filled me with nostalgia. The tale was told brilliantly. I was surprised many times by the twists and turns in the book. To write anything further would give away the twists and turns of the tale. If you like Philip Roth, you will love this book. I recommend it very highly.
